THE FORUM OUTCOME

The message from the Protect Pittwater Forum last week:
- There are no financial benefits from council mergers.
- Labor and the Greens have recommitted to demerger plebiscites.
- The Liberal govt betrayed us, having said mergers would be voluntary but planning ours from the start.
- Use your vote wisely and number every square at the state election

We were lied to and treated with utter contempt by the NSW Government. The merger of our council was a fait accompli, as history shows and this timeline confirms, despite 89% of Pittwater residents wanting to keep our Pittwater Council. Show them what you think of being treated this way on Saturday 23 March at the State Elections.
From what has been discovered from FOI, "the State Government already had a final Warringah, Manly, & Pittwater merger proposal prior to the Warringah (Council) proposal in August 2015". Did this mean - that despite all the talk and promises by the NSW State Liberal Government, and from out local Pittwater State MP that council mergers would not be forced, that the people would be listened to, that democracy would prevail - we were lied to, hoodwinked, conned, taken for a ride with the whole "Fit for the Future" process and treated with utter contempt?
Well the fact that we have a merged council when 89% of Pittwater residents said they wanted to keep our Pittwater Council says a very big YES. We are and need to be angry at this treatment by a democratically elected government. We need to show them just how angry at NSW State Elections on March 23 2019.

Selena Griffith We may also like to note that the Pittwater GM refused to show councilors the legal advice he received AND the government online portal for listing amalgamation preferences DID NOT HAVE an option for NO amalgamation. The GM also refused to demonstrate to the councilors what options were put forth on that platform. Also important to note that the EGM was held on a date where both Clr Heggarty and I were on logged leave. I was working in Malaysia and she was attending SLSA event. This meant that the GM and MAYOR knew that they could not lose a vote on that day.
Selena Griffith The GM also provided misinformation in order to intimidate councilors into supporting himself and the Mayor - that if we took legal action we would, as 'directors' of the council, be individually financially responsible for the cost. I believe this misinformation / fear tactic swayed the decision of Clr Millar and perhaps also Clr White.
