SAVE MONA VALE HOSPITAL PUBLIC MEETING
PALM BEACH RSL CLUB
30 JULY 2018 AT 5PM
Message from Protect Pittwater
Hi People-
It has been excellent talking with you this week and hearing your great enthusiasm building from last week’s meeting. We didn’t know if we would get 20 people or the 200 we did- so we didn’t have much further in place til we gauged community interest! We need all hands on deck to get this hospital protected and you have all expressed great opinions etc.
As you may be aware Miranda will be away for the next few weeks and in the meantime we at Protect Pittwater are keen to work with you people who have already registered the fighting spirit to get on with building a campaign. I’m hoping you will be able to meet early next week to talk about the stuff below and bring with you anyone you know who is keen to muck in and take on a contact role for one of the ideas building. .
MEET UP
Protect Pittwater is meeting on Monday at Palm Beach RSL- can people make it there at 5 pm??
Alternative would be Tuesday at same time?
NB We do have differences of opinion on practically everything as a vibrant community should have!! As a way of keeping focussed We will kick off by hearing from each person a 2 minute précis of what they think the focus should be- and take questions and comment only after each person has spoken.
Please consider(and express) your view on the overall goal:
Are we trying to stop closure of services and removal of patients at end of October? or
Are we trying to ensure that removal of patients is temporary until return of level 3 hospital? or
Are we focussing on saving the building from demolition so that we can continue on with getting hospital returned- at least emergency etc in the near future.
PLANNING
I think we are all united on the key themes below and I believe we will develop others as we build
We need:
Broad community engagement
We have found people are not even aware that the hospital is closing- the soothing messages about all the great new ancillary services have done their job We need to get the message out.
Community anger
We need to capture that and express it.
Political Pressure to be applied
Our tools are:
Communications and visible people.
So far in place we have. . . I believe?
EVENTS- visibility
Campaign kick off picnic- early September Leonie and Pip- soft approach to alert community broadly
Campaign Outside Rob Stokes Office- after picnic Marcia and ?(a mum and kids person yet unsourced) we care Rob.
Investigative journalist probe- starting now Michael- articulate the underbelly.
Protest Rally- mid October Alison and David- demonstrate our anger.
We also have flyers being prepared David and perhaps others?
COMMS
Comms Team: Leonie Michael Pru Catherine David and need more.
We need as yet undefined etc leaflet drop, street stall, letters campaign co-ordinator.
If I have omitted people who have worked on this over the years who still want to be involved- my apologies. Please get them along.
I currently don’t have the emails for Save Mona Vale and the hospital auxiliary etc but will hopefully have them along to a meet soon even if its not the action meeting on Monday
Cheers
